I'm a Canadian artist, and I write, produce & perform my music entirely on my own, and completely independently. I sing, play the piano and guitar, and produce electronic programming. I've been in 5 different bands/music duos over the years, before releasing my debut solo album "Rhapsody for the Disco" earlier this year. On May 1st, I released my follow-up sophomore album, "Symphony for the Stereo". I would describe my style as a mix of deep house, disco, synth wave, new wave, glam rock, and smooth rock. I draw influence from many musical genres such as those styles, but also from classical music, classic rock, and jazz. I am also a visual artist, with work currently in a gallery in Los Angeles. I've worked in graphic design, illustration, stage, sets, and costume for film and theatre, as well as having performed in live musical theatre productions. Over the past couple years I've been bringing these skills together to create my own music videos for YouTube and Instagram. I did about 100 cover songs before making videos for my original music. I've made them entirely on my own, from the video editing to making the sets, backdrops, props and costumes, with some of the videos incorporating my artwork. The videos for my new album will all incorporate animation as a new element. Lyrically, my work is a mix of abstract wordplay and atmospheric suggestion with tongue-in-cheek wit with a wry touch of social commentary. I enjoy creating colorful moods, incorporating humor, and a bit of deadpan comedy, as well as honest inspiration. I also enjoy rhyme play and using lyrical themes such as linguistics such as in 3 of my new songs- one which uses almost entirely (English) words that come from Greek origin, the other two using the same method with French and Italian. I also enjoy making pop culture and musical references, nods to classic movies, vintage and retro art, fashion, and even kitsch. Some songs strive for lyrical simplicity and straightforwardness, some are more abstrat, and others are full of double-entendres, puns and word play. The song "Don't Sleep Tonight" is based on "Nessun Dorma" from the opera "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini. The melody is an interpretation, while the lyrics are loosely based on the original, but not a direct translation. Other songs contain references to melodies and themes by classical masters Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Liszt, and Schumann, but "Don't Sleep Tonight" is intended as an English language interpretation of "Nessun Dorma". I hope to have created fun, danceable atmospheres of excitement, mystery and beauty. As both albums are arranged to be played like a dj set- the tempo increasing through the album, I envisioned them as the ideal album for- driving, 45 minutes on the treadmill, a weekend afternoon cleaning the house, a morning drive, or a dj set for a fun night out.
